After having lived here for more than two years now, I’ve learned quite a bit on just how Chile works. And I’ve also learned to accept –on most days– that there are some things I will never understand.
A neighborhood favorite.
I think it’s fairly obvious why we call him “whale dog.”
I’ve never seen this guy move outside of a 100 meter radius from where he ALWAYS is, his home. I’ve lived in this area for more than a year now and it never fails, when I pass by, there he is, in all his whale dog glory. Continue reading Whale Dog→
I see dogs doing cute things every day…now, they never slip my vision, but I´ve finally stopped getting the urge to photograph every single one of them, there´s neither enough time nor memory space for that. But this guy, well, he’s special.
Here he was, all curled up in the corner, suitcase in front. It´s as if he´s one of those street entertainers, with something in front of them for tips, but he gave up for the night. You´d think that after more than a year living here, the dogs would lose their charm. But they don´t. I don´t think they ever will. I was out in Plaza Italia Tuesday night and ran across this guy, sitting amidst the flowers, all the while some protest is going on and tons of bikers are gathering for Critical Mass, promoting bike culture.
Santiago wouldn´t be Santiago without the street dogs. Though it´s actually quite out of control, I can´t help but love the hundreds of thousands of four-legged friends roaming about the city.
