🍷Straight from the notes for the Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru - Les Millandes by @domaineserafin: Shock me, shock me, shock me with that deviant behavior. Wild and woolly, love bombing with plum and even hints of cassis. Then comes the earth and strawberries.

🍙 @silverriceny is the shit and fed me well during the dog bite incident. A regular on my roster.

The 1996 Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru - Les Caillerets by @domaine_jeannoel_gagnard is the right caress of lemon curd, 'tis buttered and bright with some straw and a lonnnngggg finish. A fair definition of love.

My first flight was thirty seconds of bliss, feeling like a bird before slamming into a tree that came out of nowhere. Absolute panic set in as I tortured myself for having been so last-minute, for trying to learn less than three days before leaving the country to use not-cheap equipment I convinced my client to buy. I was in Nantucket, nonetheless, in a land I had never known until the afternoon prior. Then came the internets and @ascot_wines & @barry.j.ang to the rescue. I’d already started planning in my mind to figure out how to buy and deliver a drone to my hotel in Milan. Maybe, just maybe, this could still work out…and then thanks to ladders and GPS, those thoughts vanished and we took it out for another spin.

So it did work out. And it was glorious. And I crashed it and had to run after it several times throughout those first few days in Italy. And because of fear, I missed so many opportunities to get a bird’s-eye view of my 3+ weeks spent in Italy this summer.

However, I’m going back in November, drone in tow. If you have any great tips, videos, or inspiration to share in the meantime, I’d greatly appreciate it.

I’ve been saying for a few years now that bird watching will be a part of my retirement, but in the meantime, while I still can, I’m taking to the sky and putting myself in their position, ON A MISSION TO SEE AND LIVE MORE.

Anyway, here is some footage I got. The middle and end parts have the pretty, what-you-would-expect drone type of material. Every once in a fortunate while, I’ll find myself going absolutely gah-gah for a glass of wine and then realize I haven’t even tasted it yet—the first five minutes easily “lost” in the nose alone, deciphering a symphony in the swirl.

Smell is such a powerful sense. It affects up to 80% of what we taste. And yet so often, we waste the whiff to get straight to the sip and the sensations of libations.

The two senses are tethered, a retroactive revaluation. And isn’t that just fun? Fascinating?

The 1989 @chateaumoutonrothschild_ was that, all of the above, showing so much love and life.

The nostrils are lined with a bloody raspberry primer before taking a well-groomed stallion for a ride on a worn, leather saddle squishing red cherries and sprigs of mint. Meanwhile, random hints of bitter chocolate and Oreo crust permeate the periphery. I know exactly who is playing the violin and who is playing the symbols; I even recognize the clarinetist in the back. The mouth persists with the same complexity, culminating in a rave piece on balance, place, and recognition that for as much as you love your Burgundies and Barolos, your more fascinating Juras or Kabinetts, anything other than something you know to be so inflated all the same, it’s Bordeaux. It's fucking Bordeaux. Stuffy, not overly appealing or extreme landscape-wise, save the chateaus and gorgeous gardens, and yet, the wines from these lands can truly be some of the best I’ve ever tasted. In fact, the best…

I'd also like to thank and promote the regular practice of grounding and sitting in the grass to gather your thoughts with a regular old pen and paper, to persist with analog interactions and reactions. Santé 😘
