Day 6:
Woke up refreshed with Skip on the porch. We hiked around the Chiloé National Park for a bit, and of course our partner tagged along.
It wasn’t until our departure that we realized Skip had more friends than just the two of us. We left Cucao with fleas, and headed to Ancud for our last night on the island. After a good shower, we hit the town in search of the infamous Curanto, a giant dish of all kinds of seafood, meats and potatoes. It lived up to its name, but I’m glad we shared one, as these things are massive.

Day 7:
A travel day. Ancud to Puerto Montt for a delicious seafood lunch, and then to Cochamó. We found a place to stay with a lovely little couple in quite a unique house. The vase was a personal favorite. We finished the night with Chile’s victory against Columbia, sealing the deal for Chile to advance to the World Cup. HUGE DEAL around here. ¡Vamos al mundial!
Double-sided heartthrob vase.
Day 8:
A most brilliant day. It started out with a boat ride spotting sea lions–or as it literally translates from Spanish to English: sea wolves–dolphins and various types of birds. It ended with a carrera de caballos, a good old fashion horse race. The cowboys were out and the bets were made–hitching a ride with the friendly strangers that invited us was the best decision we ever made.
Day 9: I do not believe the rain ever stopped. We went to Lake Tagua Tagua in hopes that we would be able to take in it’s amazing color and scenery, but rain and more rain did not allow for this. Long story short, we ended up walking for three hours in the rain until we were able to hitch a ride home.
Day 10:
Our final day of exploration, we headed to the Cochamó Valley and hiked to a section of the Valdivian Rainforest.
Day 11:
Back to the big city and finally some warmth. BRILLIANT!
