As I lie in bed listening to the lizard chirp in my room, and see the shadow of him scurry across the wall, I can’t help but take a moment to reflect on this crazy adventure.
It’s 5:00 a.m., and I cannot sleep. At this point I anxiously await the sunrise to see if it’s nearly as spectacular as the sunsets I’ve witnessed in these past two and a half weeks.
Anticipating the sunrise is a parallel to many experiences I’ve encountered thus far. Any time I order food, it’s really up in the air as to what I may receive. For all I know there could be a firing cauldron full of soup with chicken feet placed in front of me. I could get a wine cooler upon my request for a beer.
The sky has a tinge of purple to its darkness.
No longer is it strange to see my Vietnamese friends drink Bird’s Nest…the “spiritual” drink containing chunky bird placenta. I could see any animal or animal part now as potential food. I must say, I am among quite resourceful creatures. Nothing here goes to waste.
Hues of pink are filtering through the sky….I’m enticed. I shall seize the moment, camera in hand, and watch this part of the world wake up.
