Monday Memories – Take it easy…

Well, in lieu of Jamiroquai, I had to push back Monday Memories until today…a Tuesday Token?

This phlog is proof that I have to play more with my macro lens!

A phlogisophical to ponder

Snail
“Time sometimes flies like a bird, sometimes it crawls like a snail; but a man is happiest when he does not even notice whether it passes swiftly or slowly.” -Ivan Turgenev

Do you think a snail is overly concerned with his end result? Is he really striving to achieve something in the near future? Possibly, how can we ever know? But, maybe he’s just thinking and concentrating on his subsequent step, the very next move.

Progress is a slow process for a snail. But slimy millimeter by slimy millimeter he makes his way; and he often rests, for he’s realistic—it can’t all be done at once.

I chose to believe that he’s a live-for-the-moment kind of guy, gliding along on his goo by the coil of his shell.

He must have an extreme amount of patience.

I greatly admire the snail. And every time I think that I’ve become a little more like him in quality—patience, living for the moment, not expecting everything at once—I falter a bit and go back to my fretting nature, worrying about things in which I simply have no control. My mother always used to tell my brother and I that we needed to just “hide and watch.” And I always remember thinking, well if we’re hiding, how can we watch? But now that my mind has developed a little more metaphorically, albeit the rage in which it was generally told to us, it really is what we ought to do.

And a lot of the time, that’s exactly what the snail does: Just hides and watches. (For the sake of it all, we won’t adhere him to the stereotype of sheer laziness.)

Now granted we can’t literally just get cozy in a shell and wait for something spectacular to happen; but surely for the moment we can accept the hand we’re dealt.

A wise woman recently told me, “Count your blessings for there are many.” Indeed there are, and I thought maybe some others could benefit from this word of advice as well.
