Monday Memories – Hang ten

This makes me want to hop on a bus and head to the shore immediately!

We are but small fish in a big pond

What on Earth is more fascinating than the ocean? It is this giant body of water, of which 95 percent remains unexplored, that consumes 71 percent of our planet. It has immense power, both in destruction and tranquility; and though we can monitor and study it to no end, we still cannot accurately predict its behavior.

Needless to say, with the salty smell, hues of blues and greens, the peaceful repetition of waves hitting the shore, the feeling of sand between my toes and its intriguing nature, I am drawn to the ocean. And now, living only a little over an hour’s drive from the shore, I am all the more enthralled.

Now I can assure you that one day, probably not too far away, I will indeed try climbing on the board and balancing whilst riding a wave. However, for now, photographing others surfing is sufficient. With the Pacific’s large swells, it proved to be a bit of a challenge—keeping track of the small fish in such a big pond—but equally and honestly, a bit boring. Not every wave is suitable for riding, therefore I ended up searching and focusing and changing my settings much more than actually pressing the shutter. So while I’d like to give it more than the hour I had, I can’t see myself becoming an overly enthusiastic surf photographer—unless of course money was involved…

Aside from the short photo session, I was fortunate enough to enjoy a wonderful weekend, extremely summer-esk, in Algarrobo. I know the phlog has been lacking a bit in content recently, but the whole trying to make a living thing gets in the way. I shall never set my camera down for too long though, so always check back!
