Now, I would go anywhere the wind takes me, but I choose Barcelona because of my fluency in Spanish, which I feel would really help me go beyond your typical tourist experience, giving insight into a city in which I yearn to know.
What are the five things I’d most like to do?
1. One word: Gypsies. I want to photograph and mingle with the gypsies. They fascinate me and I want to expose them as people, a culture, not just the common clever thieves they’re known to be. I think I could be crafty enough to befriend one and hopefully not get robbed in the process and/or convert.
2. Pakastani beer guys. Now I’ve never been to Barcelona, but my good friend has, and one of the biggest impressions the city left on her were the random men (she claims Pakistani) in the parks and plazas walking around, selling beer. Who needs a store when you’ve got the handy beer man? This would also naturally lead to checking out Barcelona’s happening night scene.
3. Visit those hole-in-the-wall bars where sweaty bodies come together to dance the enchanting Flamenco. Can’t you imagine a fun multimedia piece on the music, the clapping, the colorful clothes, the sexual tension, the dance…
4. Find all the cute old men in Barcelona and compose a photo essay of them, because simply put, I love cute old men. I’m sure there are plenty of viejos tiernos.
5. Hang out with the Barcelona Donut Man. And eat one of his donuts.
I love to sit and watch people, walk around wanderingly and tell others about it. I would love to do this for ‘Go with Oh.’
Also, dear readers, you should check out their site, as they have a great Facebook competition where you could win four fantastic prizes!
