Blackwater Falls

The Blackwater River runs through the Allegheny Mountains in the eastern part of wild and wonderful. At one point, after flowing peacefully through the Canaan Valley, it plunges some 60 feet, entering the Blackwater Canyon.

I would have loved to get down in the river, look up at the falls rather than on and over. But it’s a national park and there are rules, so that is why you’ll only see a left-side perspective.

Much of the falls take on an amber hue, caused by tannic acid from fallen foliage. The sound of the cascading water is powerful.

Waterfalls are always the perfect place to play with shutter speed and exposure. Smooth, glazed water, or sharp, frozen droplets.
