I needed a break. New York City’s pace. The weather. Reality…it was all too much.
So I fled to a remote island in the Caribbean, where I replaced dark, dreary days and doomscrolling with sitting and staring at the sea. No news, no social, not even a phone on me half the time. Nearly eight days of blissful ignorance.

Free from the constant abuse and misuse of my participation and information online, my gears began to shift. Instead of checking my phone when bored or alone, I read my book or continued to look all around. Mornings were for meditation, writing, and stretching. Days were filled with wandering around the island and popping into the sea at the opportunity. Some evenings I socialized with the locals, others I simply went to sleep. A week completely unaware of what was happening elsewhere.
I cannot recommend this exercise enough. Though you likely can’t get to the sea or even take a break, where there’s a will, there’s a way, and even disconnecting in the everyday can do wonders.

Yet, I need to be informed now more than ever, I know. And social media can help my business grow…
There are plenty of reasons to keep us signing in again, to remain a cog. And I’m still trying to figure it all out, how I will allow these powerful systems to influence my precious time. If you have any suggestions, please, I’m all ears. I’ve since let the daily news back into my life, but my personal social is still pending…I still have to work, of course, I’m still making @MoisheMayer and others shine.
Of one fact I am certain: I love to create and share, and I don’t ever want to stop. However, it’s stopped adding up to me, the ROI, playing the game to gain, gain, gain. Spending hours on curating 24 hours that will more or less go poof. And then getting sucked in to think my body and skin and relationships and wardrobe and overall life will never be perfect without these thousands of things that consume thousands of minutes and add up to countless hours spent in a spin.
But, upon ejecting yourself from the ride, there’s a lot more free time—especially if you went crazy like me in January and canceled every subscription to every app because they all lead to funding our own demise. You see why I needed that break?!
The sea set me straight, though, and thus began the plot to revive kendalmontgomery.com.

I have so many stories to share, so many thoughts to throw out there in hopes of creating real connection and community. So welcome to that attempt, I hope you’ll sign up for the ride! I promise not to spam you, sell your data, etc. Having your email is just an easier way for you to experience the world of wine, food, and travel with a touch of eccentricity.

I’ve been journaling since I learned to write and am known in my circles as the one who takes notes. Books and books full, it’s time to bring them to life. Without further ado, welcome to the era of Kendal starts making sense of all the notebooks. You’re in for a wild ride :)
Please feel free to email me anytime or leave comments below. DMs on social won’t work at least until the end of March. CHEERS!
All of my love to Big Corn Island, Nicaragua. Thank you for being so spectacular.
Much more on that coming soon!
