Monday Memories – Brrr!

Well, it’s just so very cold, so while I’m laying in my bed wrapped up in six blankets, wearing long johns, pants, a long sleeve shirt, a fleece jacket and two pairs of socks on, I see this as an appropriate Monday Memory: My first go around with a heat-less winter, 2009. This is my third now, and it’s probably the worst, as I have not even an old, ghetto heater to warm my bones. It’s cold folks, downright cold.

Despite cliché, it’s cold!

The only source of heat in a large, three-bedroom apartment.

I had heard so much about the lack of heat before coming to Santiago–so much so that I saw it as a bit cliché. I kept looking at the forecast and I really could not see how it could be that bad. Highs in the 60’s and yes lows in the 40’s or 30’s, but buck up, wear some clothes.

Well, I was wrong; therefore I too will talk about how I shivered myself to sleep my first night in Chile.

Bottom line, it is COLD! I have found that both night and day are warmer outside than inside my apartment. There are not vents to give warmth, only one ancient gas heater that is a bit intimidating to light. It is not just my place, it seems most places are equally as chilling. So if by chance you come to Santiago in the winter, I would strongly advice you prepare for some very cold nights.
