Hello, world! My name is Kendal Montgomery, and I’m prone to wander. Curious walking is my strength, stimulation my folly. And that combination: the culmination of this website.

Since dubbed an onion sack* growing up in West Virginia, connecting with others has always been my path. Once I realized how much more lay beyond my hills, traveling to live and tell about it became my specialization.

I want to experience everything. Any taste, smell, sight, or sensation is up for grabs. Always has been.

While living in Chile as an English teacher and journalist on the international news route, I took a job at Viña Cono Sur to become the only native English speaker in the communications department of a vineyard selling nearly 4 million cases of wine a year worldwide. It changed my life.

With wine came delicious mouthfeels, culture, a deep connection to place, and unforgettable travels. There you are one day in Moscow, training a 30-person sales team to represent a wine from Chile that you represent as an American. Life is wild like that if you’re open to what it takes.

After 10+ years of focusing on a wine career that takes me all around the world (see: Purple Mouthed), I’m reviving the practice of telling stories and exposing what’s out there, beyond the bottles and vines, though you’ll find a lot of that here too. 

Currently based in Brooklyn, New York, I’m frequently somewhere else. A seasoned solo traveler, can’t recommend it enough. Always available for commissions, invitations, and unique experiences. Además, hablo español como cualquiera. I lived in Chile for ten years!

*Being called an onion sack in my neck of the woods means you’re long-winded—the thought being that onion sacks have holes in them, yet you have enough hot air to fill one up. Look, I’m not saying it makes so much sense, simply relaying the meanings given to the words that were used. I didn’t care, though, I just kept talking :)
