Valpo church

Ah the ever-convoluted topics of abortion and women´s rights. It´s been the subject of nearly all Chilean conversations these days as President Michelle Bachelet fights to make abortion legal in the case of rape, unviable pregnancies and if the mother´s life is in danger.

In Chile, under no circumstances is an abortion legal. Just ask the 11-year-old, repeatedly-raped girl who ended up pregnant and prohibited from aborting.  Chile is one of five countries in the world that punishes with prison time in the case of an abortion.

And so, in light of all the vehement Catholic and conservative opposition to such an absurd idea as to letting say an 11-year-old rape victim abort, it seems some pro-choicers took to voicing their opinion on the side of a Catholic church on Cerro Bellavista, also stating, “Mi abuela también abortó” My grandmother also aborted. And to top it off, they added on the far left, “Aborto libre. Gratis…” Liberate Abortion. Free… I´m sure that really pissed off the pro-lifers.

I suppose I´ll leave it at that, as an informative piece about what´s going on at the end of the world….

Fun fact, divorce just became legal in Chile in 2004.
