Jamiroquai in Chile

I was Jamiroquai’s Cosmic Girl last night…his show at the packed Movistar Arena was out of this world. It felt so good to get in there with my camera and photograph this man’s unstoppable energy; I truly enjoy photographing musicians. These few photos are just a tiny taste of what’s to come!

Last night was all about music. I met a few cool guys from United Press International and on the way home, we stopped mid-way to rest our poor, weighted-down shoulders and quench our thirst. Well, Jamiroquai played until 12:30 a.m., so by the time we got there, the majority were at the point of saturating their thirst. So it is of no surprise to hear a bunch of commotion and then the unforgettable sound of fist hitting bone, cracking some guy’s poor face. So there were words, blood-spattered sidewalks and eventually the police came to make peace. Well, amidst all this, here come along two guys with their two air-powered keyboards.

And then they begin playing one of my favorite songs by Yann Tiersen, “L’autre valse d’Amélie.” These guys were fantastic, and their peaceful vibes quite a contrast to the drunkards and cops. Well, the lighting was horrible and I was without a flash, but my new photog-buddy lent me his battery pack’s last flash for a photo of these two.

This is one of my favorite things about Santiago, the street musicians. Now sometimes, they’re horrendous and you can’t wait until they move on, but there are many who add to the ambiance and you hate to see them leave. And they just roam around all over, collecting whatever one is willing to give for some free, random entertainment. ¡Viva Chile!
